As the situation with COVID-19 continues to progress and in light of the evolving government updates and the easing of certain restrictions, we want to reassure you that the health and well-being of our patients is, as always, our number one priority.

We always seek to provide a safe environment for our patients and our team members and in times such as these, we believe it is our role and responsibility to do our best to ensure we can provide access to eyecare and the products our community need, whilst doing everything we can to keep our customers and our team safe and healthy.



We have taken some extra special safety measures to ensure that all George & Matilda stores remain hygienic. These measures include:

  • Hand sanitiser available – Hand sanitiser is provided for all patients to use on arrival and during their visit to the practice.
  • Frames disinfected – Our frames are always disinfected after being handled and/or tried on.
  • Test rooms and equipment disinfected – Our test rooms and equipment are thoroughly disinfected after each patient.
  • Regular disinfecting of practice – Increased in-practice cleaning and disinfecting as well as frequent disinfecting of high touch areas including waiting chairs and counter surfaces.
  • Regular handwashing breaks for staff – Team members take regular handwashing breaks to clean and sanitise hands in between serving patients.
  • Personal Protection Devices – Protective gloves and face masks worn by team members when necessary.
  • Safe social distancing – Safe distancing measures implemented in practice with the 1.5m spacing marked out.
  • Patients pre-screened – All patients pre-screened for cold & flu like symptoms over the phone prior to appointment.
  • Rescheduling of appointments if symptomatic – Patient appointments rescheduled for a later date if they are symptomatic.
  • Strict protocol for unwell staff – Team members who are unwell are required to stay home.

Stores remaining open

The majority of our stores are now open to service our patients having implemented additional safety measures, which include increased levels of sanitisation and hygiene procedures as well as social distancing measures to ensure the safety of both our patients and teams alike.

For these stores, you can continue to book eye tests with your local optometrist by phone, and our entire team are dedicated to ensuring we help you find the best eye care and eyewear solutions during this time.

Temporary store closures

After great deliberation, we made the decision to temporarily close selected stores for general business, with the hope of re-opening these in the near future.

For the stores that have temporarily closed, we will be offering:

  • Free shipping on all Contact lenses
  • Free shipping for any outstanding orders to your home
  • The opportunity to speak with an optometrist if you have any concerns about your eye health
